“Journey of Inspiration: Exploring Punjab and KPK— A Cadet’s Odyssey”
Introduction:
In the final month of each year, a palpable sense of joy and excitement fills the air for the graduating cadets of Cadet College Killa Saifullah. As December’s cold nights envelop us, the faculty members of our esteemed institution usher us on a transformative study tour. Spanning the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, this annual expedition catalyzes inspiration and motivation, fueling our aspirations to reach for the stars. With a focus on amplifying our hopes and dreams, this tour offers a glimpse into the limitless possibilities that await us in the realm of higher education and beyond. As proud members of the 11th Entry, we seize this opportunity to immerse ourselves in the educational landscape of these provinces, guided by the belief that knowledge is the key to unlocking our brightest futures.
Setting Off on our Study Tour:
Our journey began with excitement and anticipation as we boarded the bus, ready to embark on our study tour, presided by Sir Sarwar. The air was filled with chatter and laughter as we left the familiar surroundings behind and ventured into the unknown. Though our journey was limited to Punjab province in Pakistan, it felt like we were exploring the world’s most glittering destinations. Cheers erupted as we left our college behind, a sense of freedom washing over us as we journeyed through the night, finally arriving at our first stop — the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
A Day of Discovery at POF Wah Cantt:
Our first day unfolded with a blend of fascination as we delved into the inner workings of the Pakistan Ordinance Factory (POF) in Wah Cantt. A presentation shed light on the processes involved in crafting sophisticated weapons such as missiles, guns, and bullets, expanding our understanding of the nation’s defense capabilities. Navigating through the factory’s galleries, we marveled at the precision and dedication behind each piece of machinery, gaining newfound respect for the craftsmanship that safeguards our nation.
Following our insightful visit to POF Wah Cantt, our itinerary took an unexpected turn as we made our way to the Khanpur Dam, a nearby landmark renowned for its scenic beauty. Boarding boats, we glided across the waters of the dam. Laughter echoed across the reservoir as we reveled in the joy of exploration.
Exploring the Senate of Pakistan and PTV News Headquarters:
The next day began with a visit to the esteemed Senate of Pakistan, an impressive repository of Pakistan’s political history. Adorned with statues of iconic leaders, its museum provided a captivating glimpse into the evolution of the Senate and its pivotal role in shaping the nation. A captivating presentation on the museum’s wall screen offered insightful details about the history and functions of the Senate.
Though our visit coincided with a recess in Senate proceedings, we were fortunate to engage with a senior Senate member who graciously shared intricate details about the Senate’s operations. From the seating arrangements to the process of senatorial appointments and retirements. Our interaction offered invaluable insights that surpassed what mere online research could provide.
As the sun reached its zenith, we proceeded to visit the headquarters of PTV News, a cornerstone of Pakistan’s media landscape. Stepping into the newsroom, we were immersed in the atmosphere of journalistic endeavors. Through comprehensive explanations and guided tours, we gained a deep understanding of PTV’s operations, like delivering timely and accurate news to the nation.
A Visit to the Pakistan Monument and Rawalpindi Food Street:
We did not try to miss a place of history and heritage, the Pakistan Monument. It is a national monument and heritage museum located on the western Shakarparian Hills in Islamabad, Pakistan. The monument was constructed to symbolize the unity of the Pakistani people. Walking through the exhibits of its museum, we felt like we were going back in time, experiencing the challenges and victories that have shaped our country. Each display taught us something new and made us proud of our shared heritage.
Anyone who visits Rawalpindi never even thinks of not tasting the foods of Rawalpindi food street, located near the Rawalpindi Stadium. The aroma of delicious tasting foods touched our senses and made us release more gastrin. From Chicken tikka to lamb Karahi, each dish bore a testament to Rawalpindi’s rich legacy. Yet, it was the allure of SHINWARI cuisine that captured our imaginations.
Visit to Cadet College Hassan Abdal:
Our fourth day unfolded with a sense of anticipation as we set out to explore an institution that stood as a beacon of excellence. Established during the tenure of then President Pakistan, Field Marshal Ayub Khan. This esteemed institution boasts a legacy of producing exemplary leaders, having the motto:
“For developing global leaders we provide global education”.
As we traversed the corridors and classrooms of the college, we gleaned valuable insights into leadership, discipline, and the pursuit of excellence. Engaging in casual conversations with cadets, we gained a deeper understanding of the institution’s ethos and traditions.
A Day of Surprises — From Zoos to NUST to the City of Abbottabad:
Our fifth day kicked off with a visit to a nearby zoo nestled within Ayub Park. As we strolled amidst the lush greenery, we encountered a myriad of creatures, from playful goats to regal lions. Though confined within artificial enclosures, the animals’ majestic presence was unmistakable. Our talented photographer, Khursheed, skillfully captured the essence of these magnificent creatures, immortalizing their beauty in extraordinary photographs.
Still, the Sun was high in the sky, we made our way to the renowned National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). We delved into the world of academia, immersing ourselves in the knowledge and opportunities offered by NUST. Inspired by the possibilities that lay before us, we dared to dream of one day becoming part of this esteemed institution.
As the day unfolded, we bid farewell to the bustling streets of Islamabad and set our sights on a new destination — the enchanting city of Abbottabad.
A Day of Revelations — From PMA to Lahore’s Charms:
The PMA stands as the premier training center for officers in Pakistan, offering a rigorous two-year program to cadets aspiring to serve in the army. Our visit provided invaluable insights into the inner workings of the military establishment, igniting within us a newfound admiration for the discipline and dedication exhibited by the cadets undergoing training.
Enthralled by the natural beauty of Abbottabad, we found ourselves drawn to its greenery and picturesque picnic spots. Towering mountains offered breathtaking vistas of the city below, captivating us with their inspiring beauty. Lunchtime presented us with the chance to savor Abbottabad’s most famous delight — fish — further enhancing our appreciation for the city’s offerings.
As the afternoon sun began its descent, we bid farewell to Abbottabad and set our sights on the vibrant capital of Punjab, Lahore. Renowned for its rich cultural heritage, the saying goes about it,
“jiney Lahore nhi vekheya o jamya e nhi.”
Lahore beckoned us with promises of adventure and discovery. Despite the long journey, the lively company of my friend Aizaz kept my spirits high, infusing the journey with enthusiasm and excitement.
Embracing Lahore’s Warmth — Aitchison College and Joyland Park Adventure:
Arriving in Lahore, we were greeted by the city’s warm climate. Our first stop was the renowned Aitchison College, known for its distinguished alumni and commitment to excellence in education. A comprehensive tour of the campus, from classrooms to sports grounds, left us inspired, providing valuable insights to apply to our own college’s development.
In need of refreshment, we ventured to Joyland Park, an amusement park located near Fortress Stadium. The exhilarating rides and vibrant atmosphere washed away the fatigue of our journey, leaving us with cherished memories of joy and laughter.
Exploring Lahore’s Heritage and Patriotism at Wagah Border:
A fortunate Sunday break led us to Iqbal Park housing the iconic Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque, and Minar-e-Pakistan. Roaming the fort’s grand halls, we soaked in the Mughal splendor. Nearby, the Badshahi Mosque stood in reverence, while Minar-e-Pakistan symbolized the nation’s resilience. It was a day of discovery and enlightenment, immersing us in Lahore’s rich history and timeless charm.
Later that day, the tour schedule took us to the Wagah Border, the border between Pakistan and India. A parade at the Wagah border, a symbolic flag ceremony, ignited fervor among the cadets, showcasing the unwavering devotion of its participants to their country.
A visit to NCA and a Meeting with Punjab’s Education Minister:
Our final day in Lahore began with a visit to the esteemed Government College, National Colleges of Arts (NCA) steeped in history as the oldest arts institution in Pakistan and the second oldest in South Asia. Here, a knowledgeable staff member enlightened us on the institution’s rich heritage and modern facilities.
Highlighting our stay was a meeting with the Punjab Education Minister at the Punjab Management Institute for Understanding (PMIU). Discussions revolved around scholarships and educational challenges, providing valuable insights into Punjab’s academic landscape.
Exploring PAF Sargodha and PAF Cantt:
With the dawn of the last glimpses of the tour, our routine took us to Pakistan’s PAF College Sargodha, established in 1953. It is known for its notable alumni as the last six consecutive Air Chief Marshals of the Pakistan Air Force are alumni of this esteemed institution. A presentation shed light on its history and education system including its faculty members. And a visit followed the presentation that enlightened us with valuable thoughts.
later that day, a young officer of the Army took us to the airbase where cadets were shown many unique and technological missiles, anti-tanks, radars, and many sophisticated weapons that were manufactured for the sake of defending the country from outer invaders.
Conclusion:
The thirteen days of enjoyment and happiness ended with the turning of our bus to the homeland. This was the best opportunity for us to discover the land of beauty and beacon of education. Experiencing and understanding every aspect of the society and education system indeed overwhelmed us and motivated us to achieve our highly valued dreams that could not be chased easily. The abilities we gained, the manners we acquired, and the insights we absorbed from the messages we discussed could not have been possible without such a comprehensive tour. Filled with much cheer and laughter this tour bid us goodbye as the college showed again its delightful surroundings. These moments are and will remain in our memories forever.
